Celebrating 125 Years
Celebrating 125 years 1885 to 2010
Teachtaireacht an Uachtaráin
It is indeed an honour and a privilege for me to extend this message to the members of the Glynn Barntown Club on the publication of your Club history commemorating your 125th anniversary. Indeed, one year after the Association celebrated its 125 year Anniversary, Glynn Barntown join an illustrious band of select Clubs that rival the GAA in terms of longevity. This is something to be immensely proud of.
Your club has for many years supplied a wonderful service to the people of Wexford by providing a vital social and sporting outlet for those whom you serve and as you celebrate 125 years, I think it is an appropriate time to reflect on a job well done and on the lasting impact you have made on the community. Equally, we should always remember with pride those who have gone before and who kept the fire of Gaelic Games burning brightly, in difficult times when there was little to celebrate.
Glynn Barntown has a long and proud history in both codes since their inception in 1886 providing a number of players to Wexford’s last All-Ireland senior hurling success in 1996. Needless to say, the future of any Club is backboned by the emergence of young players who are nurtured and trained by your adult members. On this front you have reason to be optimistic with success in recent times coming at underage level with county minor titles in both codes in 2009.
It would be remiss of me not to mention Michael Kehoe, Iar-Uachtarán CLG and former member of Glynn Barntown, a lifelong devotee who worked tirelessly on promoting Irish language and culture across the Association.
Lastly, as one of the Associations oldest and proudest Clubs, you are a fine and appropriate example to others and I would like to take this opportunity to wish you continued success both on the field and off.
